The Celtic Sea Salt Journey
The journey of Mystic Nature Celtic Salt begins in the Guérande salt marshes of France which extend over a surface of 1,720 hectares. Salt workers follow 2000 year old ancient traditions harnessing the natural elements of wind, sun and sea.
The salt marshes in Guérande consist of a variety of tanks where seawater is meticulously concentrated to achieve a salt concentration of approximately 300 grams per liter.
The salt water is harvested in crystallizing ponds called “oeillet”. The climate of the area leads to very short harvesting periods lasting on average from Mid June to the beginning of September. Harvesting can only take place once the system has reached saturation with the right climate conditions of heat, wind and the absence of rain.
Before any salt is collected, salt workers replenish the ponds by channeling water from the surrounding flow areas through a small channel into the harvesting ponds. This process ensures the essential brine for salt formation the following day.
Salt workers will then skill-fully direct the pond's water with a long-handled tool crafted from rectangular planks, effectively transporting the salt to a central hub. Finally, the salt is gracefully drawn towards this central platform, where it is carefully hoisted to create a majestic salt mound known as "ladurée."
This magnificent pile remains its position all through the summer season enhancing the salt's mineral composition, resulting in a salt rich in vital elements. This unique process ensures that Mystic Nature Celtic Sea Salt not only embodies exceptional taste but also provides a natural abundance of essential minerals. Its final part of the process is to be expertly packaged as Mystic Nature Celtic Sea Salt.
